NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free, 10-session course for adults living with mental health challenges. NAMI Peer-to-Peer provides an educational setting focused on recovery that offers respect, understanding, encouragement and hope.

  • Free and confidential

  • Held once a week for two hours

  • Taught by trained Peer Mentors living in recovery themselves

  • A powerful resource for information on mental health and recovery

MEDITATION CLASS

Introduction to the Experience of Mindfulness through Meditation

Welcoming family members, loved ones and people living in recovery with mental health conditions.

Join us for this opportunity to gain powerful tools to support healing and resilience through present moment awareness (mindfulness). This class focusing on breath, body, feelings/emotions and sensations will be led by a Mindfulness Stress Reduction-Based Program certified expert.

Parameters:

  • Culturally sensitive and inclusive

  • A secular, mental strengthening practice to cultivate our ability to focus on the present moment, rather than the past or future    

  • Meditation as a tool to build awareness of our five senses moment to moment

  • Commitment to briefly meditate on a daily basis

FACILITATOR: PAUL NORTON, MD
Dr. Norton is a retired pediatrician who has worked in the Milwaukee area since 1978. The last 10 years of his practice were devoted exclusively to developmental behavioral pediatrics. Dr. Norton now does mindfulness teaching in a variety of settings, including schools, prisons, and for various groups at Milwaukee Mindfulness Center. He is certified to teach Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, as well as various other modes of meditation and awareness practice. He is the guiding instructor of the Mindfulness Community of Milwaukee

COORDINATOR: SUE SCHAEFER
Sue, a retired Information Technology leader from the Milwaukee area, currently volunteers for NAMI and has led a NAMI Walk team for the past six years. Sue has a daily yoga and meditation practice and looks forward to supporting this NAMI mindfulness class.
